AdrienneRose Gionta
10.4.15 - 12.3.15

You all know roses = ARG. Those who know me (in the third person?) well... know how obsessive yet playful I can become with my love of specific words. If you don’t believe me… then you can ask Jackie about the time when we spent an evening competing to see who could get the most people to say the word “MOIST”. Perhaps it is against the norm to favor the word "MOIST" which automatically seems to generate feelings of disgust and/or discomfort equivalent to fingernails scratching against a chalkboard for many, yet I have a completely different reaction. This particular word brings me great joy and makes me think of a perfectly-baked cake.

“MOIST” is the first in my newest photographic series titled "Roses and Words" exploring the physiological reactions to what we see and say collectively induced by the pairing of the two, exploring subtle aspects of classic conditioning. Beyond the surface is a unique personal connectivity that is formed as these carefully curated words and images infiltrate the immediate surroundings where they now live on in the minds and the mouths of as many others as possible, perhaps reversing any negative connotations associated with the word “MOIST”.
